TGBOL chapter 6.0 Embrace your quirkiness

Hello dear TGBOLers and thank you so much for all your contributions to last week’s prompt. I was wondering if this type of  list with instruction would interest some of you and by the looks of things, it seems like it did !

I feel like keeping on making lists with a positive attitude to begin this month of June. This weeks theme is inspired by a thought that crossed my mind a few days ago about the shoes I was wearing.

I was wearing ocean blue crocs and heard someone talking in my back « wow, this hurts the eyes ». And all I could think was « Yes, maybe, but they make me feel soooo good ». and Then I started thinking about all those things I do that are not common like but bring joy and comfort in my life.

This week’s theme is « Embrace your Quirkiness », celebrate these things that may not gather public opinion but contribute to you charm and happiness.

Choose at least five topics in which you beg to differ from mister or miz Everyone and delight in your own originality.

Without further ado, here is my list of quirkiness.

1/ Shoes : Crocs ! so many shapes and colors, Clogs, Mary Janes, Mules. I love them all. They make my hectic days so much easier. And the brand has released a collection of flats that look really elegant and still feel great on the feet.

2/ Music : Cheesy tune from the 80’s. I am an eclectic music leastener but there’s nothing that lifts my spirits like a cheesy tune from the 80’s. Ricky&Poveri, Mc Hammer, and for the french readers Peter & Sloane.

3/Readings : Romance ! I don’t know how it is perceived in your country but in mine Romance has a terrible reputation and romance readers binge on their kindle in order not to be judged. But honestly, I can read a romance books in just a few hours if its well written. And read it again and again.

4/ My precious : Your think Jewels ? Nope, I could not care less. It’s a fountain pen, a gift from my husband that never leaves my bag.

5/ Poetry : Angry, Absurd or funny. Some write poetry to reflect on their human condition, some express their thoughts about love, some relish in the beauty of nature. Not me. I write poetry to deal with my emotions. The results ? Here, here and here.

TGBOL 5.2 & 5.3 : the elements of my day and So far so good

I havn’t been able to post last week because of infernal seasonal allergies but the theme I had chosen still feels relevant.

And this week’s theme is supposed to be a corner stone is this year’s TGBOL, so let’s begin.

The elements of my day.

The idea for this list comes from Brandon Burchard’s day planner. As a snapshot of your current life, it will allow you to leave a trace of what your days are made of, what you truly enjoy and what you’re really looking for.

So, just this once here are the instructions to build your list :

  • quickly jolt you to do list
  • what are the 3 things you are excited about today
  • what are the 3 things you are truly thankful for today

Here are The elements of my day

Quick To do list

  • drop at and pick kid at preschool
  • cook all three meals according to
  • write write write and write
  • send resumes

The three things I’m excited about today

  • opening the May Scrawlrbox
  • working on my manuscript
  • playing dinosaure’s world with my kid

The three things I’m thankful for

  • being able to spend time on my writing
  • my family
  • the rain that tames my seasonal allergies

So far so good

We’re heading towards midyear and I though it would be interesting to take a look at what has changed in our life , what has evolved, what is still going on and strong  since the beginning of the year and the launch of TGBOL.

So far so good

Since the beginning of the year ;

  • I’ve changed the way I eat out of necessity
  • I’ve lost weight
  • I’m still baking on a very regular basis,
  • I’m learning a strategic new skill (But Ush until I pass the exam 🙂 )
  • I’m learning a new way to express my creativity : drawing.

TGBOL, chapter 5.0 : I am currently…

Happy may the fourth to all of you. It’s Star Wars day today. And it’s a good day to plan something fun, unusual and a little outside of our comfort zone.

So this week’s list is going to be a little different. It’s going to be a portrait of you who are, what you do and what you plan.

I found the list idea on MAMBI website as a freebie for their Create 365 brand and I thought it was a great idea.

How does it work ?

We’ll be listing items starting with I currently…. love, eat, drink, etc. You can answer each and every one of them or chose to create your own in order to come up with you very own list.

So, without further ado, here is the snapshot of my day.

I am currently…

Loving… the new burst of inspiration that keeps me writing these last few days.

Eating… a lot of vegetables and fruits.

Drinking… water and Coca-cola zero

Watching… Castle and The Voice, french edition.

Going… to start to attend a new class this evening, I’m really excited.

Reading… La voie brisée de Madharva by Matthieu Rivero, a very talented french writer.

Texting… to my fellow class mates. We’re all anxious to know who’s the instructor.

Playing… elephants and dinosaures with our daughter. She came up with the game. First animal to slide in the swimming pool wins.

Working… on three manuscripts at a time. When inspiration fails me on one, I can always switch to the other ones.

Listening… to a lot of classical music because it helps me focus.

Thanking… life everyday for giving us the opportunity to live pleasantly and guide our daughter toward her true self and her best potential.

Buying… nothing. My credit card is broken. I’m waiting for a new one.

Planning… the following weeks and trying to fit in everyone’s needs and imperatives.

Visiting… Ardèche. My husband and I came back from a short trip and are still amazed by all the beautiful landscapes we’ve seen.

Wondering… what I’ll cook tonight. No kidding. 3 people in the house, 3 different ways to eat, including a toddler with current red food phobia.

Feeling… happy as a bee in a field of wild flowers. No room for boredom.

TGBOL, Chapter 4.1 : Groceries

Hi guys. Times does fly by and I got caught in too many things to deal upfront with to even find time to post last week’s theme. Sorry. But I am back now with a theme that was suggested by TGBOL author Jartagnan.

He suggested we should do a short lasting list, something we can come up quickly with and that might not be true anymore the following week. Some of you also hinted they craved for an easy list to write down.

We’ve had several new TGBOL authors joining in during the last weeks, so let me reiterate my message : TGBOL is an open weekly challenge. Suggestions are more than welcome and I am always happy to share suggestions with the rest of our listers community. Don’t hesitate to suggest a list them.
The suggestion did resonate in me because my  grocery list has drastically changed since the beginning of the year because I have finally come around the fact that I do have food allergies and that I need to own the situation and, better, be on top of it. I might write a post about the process I’m going through if you guys are interested. Let me know in the comment section.
So this week, we are going to write down our grocery list.

It’s a recurrent exercise for many of us, it has the potential to be a quick and easy one.
It’s also a snapshot of a very particular moment in the year/month/life of someone.
And it tells a lot about who we are.

Since TGBOL authors are from all stages of life and spread around the world, I’m pretty sure we’ll discover a lot.

TBBOL Chapter 4.0 : Hobbies !

Here is another theme I can’t believe we havn’t treated yet : hobbies.

We all love to do things besides our jobs and family obligations OR if we are lucky enough, job and family obligations include our hobbies.

What are the activities you enjoy, that make you happy, that empty and quiet your mind, or trigger a creativity outburst ? Carpentrer, collector, sewer, knitter, painter… any activity ou enjoy doing for fun on a regular basis counts.

Or in the contrary, what activity makes you run away, backwards, take on a perpetual  suscription to terminal procrastination ?

Here is the list of my hobbies

1/ Writing
I just can’t help myself. Whenever I connect with my muse, Writing feels like a magical activity.

2/ Reading
I feel transported whenever I open a book and there isn’t a day during which I don’t read. I have always read a lot. One of my university teacher used to make fun of me and one of my friends because we always carried books.
Yes, we also came to the conclusion she was being a jerk.

3/ Cooking
Especially doing patisserie. Whenever I start weighting ingredients the noise from the world seem to vanish. and At he end of my cooking session, I have actually made something with my very own hands.  And everyone is the house is happy.

4/ Painting with my kid ( attempting to paint on a regular basis would be more accurate).
We sit at our living room table and jsut enjoy the spontaneity of dabbing paint on paper. Sometimes th result is cute, sometimes the result is ugly but we always enjoy these moments when we loosen up a little bit and let our creativity express itself in a naturaln and uncensored,  way

5/ Learning
I’m a learning junkie and seem to rest better when I have fed my brain during the day. So I learn. A lot. I binge on new information and it feels so goooooood.

TGBOL chapter 3.2 and 3.3 Acts of love and ways to celebrate

First of all,  I wanted to thank you all for your kindness, your messages and your patience. Last week was a challenge on many levels and writing down an exam while hosting a ferocious flu is something I’ll remember for a long time, not because I passed (yay !) but because I want to make sure it will never happen again.

I felt bad to let you down but I did not have much of a choice. So… as I wrote in my last article I came up with 2 prompts for the week.

The first one, Acts of love, in inspired by a video famous french You Tuber Enjoy Phoenix posted last week after the terrible bombings in Bruxelles last week. I thought she had a point. When things go sour, awful, we turn to our loved ones, crawl in their warm embrace and let them try to calm our heartbeat. There’s hardly a better time to show them we care. So here is the first prompt of the week : how do you show your loved ones you care ? What are the little gestures, the surprises, the words that carry your appreciation ?

Here are my usual Acts of love
I bake tarts and cakes for special occasions
I stopped buying pastries the day I understood I cold do make them myself and ensure the quality of ingredients involved. Since, I’ve baked desserts for my family and loved ones. Since they’re all keen on good food, it’s usually a treat they enjoy.

I cook world food dinners for family reunions
Yep, the learning junkie inside of me is craving for novelty. So every time I get the chance, I chose a continent and learn to cook some of the delicious food from around the world.

I text –  a lot.
I’m a writer, words come easier when I type them than when I actually say them. Unless it’s about baking gear, Veronica Mars, Sherlock, or how Dave Navarro’s so cute with glasses on, small talk isn’t my forte.
My loved ones regularly get texts from me. Sometimes meaningless, sometimes meaningful.

I hug
My kid even had me create a hug song. Don’t ask.

I call a cat a cat
If I truly care about someone, I’m not scared to tell this person when she/he lets bullshit rule.
Against my very own will, I have a very fine tuned BS detector that buzzes every time BS is around. I only share the buzz with persons I appreciate.

The second prompt of the week is inspired by my recent experience with having to write an exam and just wanting to dance on tables after learning I passed. it got me thinking. What are the ways we generally celebrate ? Dancing on tables isn’t one of my usual.

Here’s my list of ways to celebrate :

Go outside with my friends and have some drinks
Does this one really need a comment ? I dont think so.

Send texts to my friends and family
This means I send a text to each and everyone of my loved ones who’s involved. Some might think I’m high on something, some know me too well to even acknowledge such a thought and some others just go along with the fun of the friendly written banter. Dave Navarro may even be mentionned.

Have a night out with my husband
Now that’s a real way to celebrate something. When my dear husband and I get to escape even for a couple hours, that’s the real luxury. The kid’s with the grand-parents, we dress up, and treat ourselves with a grown up evening. Nice restaurant, nice music – our local auditorium has an amazing programmation, nice walk back home. The pleasure of grown up conversation and the enjoyment of silence. No beeps, no buzzes, no Mooooooommmmmmmyyy. Just the two of us.

Spend the whole night reading a good book
Can you imagine what a treat it is to have the entire night for myself and a good book ? Ok, you probably can.

Treat myself with a good warm bath, bubbles included.
And then, I binge on Pinterest.
