The Great Book of Lists, chapter 2.3 : The soundtrack of your life

This week, we are going to dip into a dimension we havn’t written about yet : music !

But we’re not going to write about any music. We’re going to write about the music themes and songs that are engraved in our dearest memories that can evoke a memory faster than anything else, or make you feel good and giddy. What music is so intertwined with your life and personality that you  can play it in your head without actually hearing it ? What musical pieces remind you of a particular time in your life like it was yesterday ?

Here is The soundtrack of my life

 Une chanson douce, Henri Salvador

My mom’s used to sing this to me as a lullaby.

The Dock of the Bay, Otis redding

I first heard the song while watching Top Gun. I couldn’t care less for the movie itself, but the music and Redding’s voice staid with me ever since.

Star Wars theme

I remember one of my first times in the theater watching the return of the Jedi. I did not understand why teddy bears were in the forest.

Swim, Madonna

This song came out the year I decided to change my study major. I used to listen to Swim on my portable CD player while walking up the Promenade des Anglais à Nice.

Bach, Cello suite n°1 performed by Rostroprovich

One of my favorite classical music performance.

Mozart, die Zauberflöte

With Bach, Mozart is the other one in my favorite classical music composers duo.

Nothing else matters, Metallica

Our song.

Il court il court le furet

My daughter’s favorite song these days.

  1. Great list topic! Music is a major part of my life so it will be hard to choose. 🙂

Star Wars is very special to me, not only for the strong tie it has to my teen years but also to my kids. My youngest writes arrangements and John Williams is one of his favorite composers. I look forward to choosing my songs. 🙂

  2. Haven’t had a chance to finish my lists for a few weeks. Great prompt for this one! I am so glad to see Henri Salvador at the top of your list. One of my all time favorites is him singing « Petite Fleur ». Although I love lots of types of music here is a selection of my all time « go to » favorites
