“You look amazing”
“Everybody will talk about you”
“You’re so lucky he chose you”
Girls cheered, praised and celebrated me. Our village’s chief had chosen me among many, fortune now rained upon my clan.
My mother, always the quietest, appeared at my side.
“I’m so proud of you.”
I shivered at her touch on my cheek, held back a tear.
“Mama, I wish I had more time.”
“I know” She smiled feebly “We will forever be grateful to you.”
Suddenly, the door opened.
I saw the sun flirting with the mountains, the altar, the grown man standing and the blade.
